The Mama Kitty Christmas card series #1

In case any of y’all out there need a little inspiration for your Christmas cards this year, and in celebration of the fact that we have now entered the magical month of December, I’ve decided to bring you 7 historical Christmas cards that my grandparents Mama Kitty and Big Jake have sent out over the years, over the course of today and tomorrow.

And if that sentence at all implied that I am sending out Christmas cards this year, you are reading waaaay too much between the lines. The last Christmas cards I sent were 5 years ago, and they doubled as wedding thank you notes. Yep. It’s called efficiency. It’s also called procrastination.

This first card is perhaps the most famous one of all. It was the Christmas of 1989, and all us grandchildren were bundled up in elf colored sweatsuits.

Elf-colored = red and green, in case that threw you for a loop.

And yes, my grandmother is wearing a white, lacy teddy. Why do you ask?

Doesn’t your grandmother wear lingerie for the yearly Christmas card as she stands in the snow?

Oh.

Incidentally, that was the same Christmas Big Jake made out with Santa Claus.

Just kidding! It was really more of a peck.

I mean, c’mon, kids were watching!

Christmas card #2 coming up in a couple hours.

  2. Cindy says:

Bwahahaha … I’d rather stay completely in the dark about my grandmother’s underwear!

  3. I think your family is a riot! You must have the BEST stories!

  4. Wendi says:

Dang, if that’s the Christmas card I can only imagine what holiday dinners are like with your family. Is there room for me at the table?

  5. I think I found my Christmas outfit!

  6. Joanne says:

These are awesome. Your family rocks.

I don’t do Christmas cards either. Too much time and energy for too little reward.

  7. Sarah says:

haha! i did christmas cards last year… this year… not so much. :) and last year’s doubled as “we moved, here’s our new address” cards!

  8. Carrie says:

    Mama Kitty is awesome!!!!

  9. Twinky says:

All 14 grandchildren (7 boys in the red sweats, 7 girls in the green) went with Santa all around town delivering candy canes to all the houses…. sort of a reverse trick-or-treat! Not enough snow to use an actual sleigh, but the wagon worked just fine. It was the family reunion Christmas before we moved Jenna and her sisters to Spain.

  10. Veronica says:

Bwahahahahaha! I bet your Grandma is a lot of fun. :)

  11. Kat says:

Okay, I laughed so hard at all of these that I just about cried. I love that she interpreted a teddy as a figure skating costume…wtf?

Everyone needs a granny like that.

  12. Vicki DeArmeyv says:

Looking forward to seeing the others. I think Larry and I were so fortunate as to receive one of their infamous or is it famous Christmas cards a few years back. When you have great legs you gotta show them off, no matter what your age is!!
